It's Friday, but Not That Friday Yet

For some reason I was sure I posted this video link to Fr. Martin's trip to Chimayo a couple of years back. It's a great essay about the Pilgrimage to Chimayo on Good Friday.

Faith

Not sure if this will embed. Probably not. I should be going to bed but I'm poking around the Santa Fe New Mexican Website and stumbled upon some video from the Good Friday Pilgrimage to Chimayo this year. Go here to watch. The faith these pilgrims have is amazing. This is the walk I didn't do with my parish. For whatever reasons, I just wasn't up for it. I thought maybe it was physical, but I think it was more spiritual.


I've posted about the Santuario before, look at tags that say Chimayo or Santuario in them. There is also a link to the site on my local links bar.

I'm not in a good place today, well haven't been lately faith wise and am trying hard not to be angry, resentful, doubtful, or anything else right now. I may post on it later.

The various accents of the pilgrims make me smile. Just listening and without being told where they are from, I can tell exactly where these people come from. I can hear a Native New Mexican a mile a way.I like the way Bill from Sidney pronounces Santuario.

Local Good Friday New Stories and More

First off, weather here on Good Friday is always weird. Yesterday, a little before noon it got really nasty and continued to be nasty most of the afternoon. It calmed down a bit later in the day but when my Mom and I went to church for services it was windy and cold. Everything was incredibly moving and poignant. The Passion was presented by the Confirmation students. We had the Veneration of the Cross and Communion, followed by an opportunity for personal veneration of the cross.

I really don't have much by way of personal reflections right now, but I might revisit this post later, if I think of something to add. But Father Martin, SJ, posted a nice piece at America about Holy Thursday. Go read it. It's worth it. While you're there, read his Good Friday reflection too.

This weather today is absolutely dreadful, which I suppose is apropos for "Holy Thursday". I think a gloomy day on Holy Saturday is truly appropriate, after all Jesus isn't really with us on this day. It's rained, snowed, the wind has blown like crazy. I have a sinus headache and a bloody nose. I took a nap hoping I'd feel better but of course I feel worse. If I miss the Easter Vigil tonight, I don't think anyone will miss me. I've never been to the Vigil so, I'd like to go and experience it once, especially after reading all about it earlier today.

In other news, the governor and the archbishop are going to Rome, so that the governor can be honored for his signing the repeal to of the death penalty. The comments in the comments section are full of win. Guh... people on the Internet! Imagine that?

I pulled this gem of a quote out of an article that cowboyangel linked over in a comment at Jeff's blog responding to one of mine about the Pilgrimage to Chimayo. I am determined that I am going to make it this year.

"Members of a local evangelical Baptist church provide a rest stop for pilgrims with chairs, refreshments and Bible tracts in their quest to "save souls."

Ah, while the rest stop and refreshments are nice, the sentiment not so much as I think it's a good way to ruin a traditionally and historically Catholic devotional.
