The Musings of a Catholic Gen-Xer.
I love Guadalupe. Not sure why, but she speaks to me in a way other versions of Mary don't. There's a Mass and a potluck at my parish, but nothing huge. My parish in Los Angeles really had a big to-do for dec. 12. When the traveling image of her came to that parish, the party lasted all night. :)
I've never had great devotion to her, but there is a definite fondness and affinity that I feel. Here in Santa Fe, I feel more drawn toward La Conquistadora-- it's just a statue, there is no apparition or anything attributed to her, other than the faith of the people here and a testament to their devotion. But this year when I saw the devotion the people had to Guadalupe when the new statue arrived, I was blown away. It was an amazing feeling and I think I finally understood it. The novena at my parish wraps on on Friday, with Mass and I think a potluck, but I'm not sure.
