Just a quick post. While tomorrow is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and while I plan to be at Mass tomorrow, in this part of the country, (and other parts as well and Mexico) people await December 12, to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe. Rocco at Whispers in the Loggia covers it all.

I think we're a bit more subdued in our celebrations here, though I'm sure Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish will have a big event to commemorate the day. Mine is doing a novena and will have a Mass on Friday.

I love Guadalupe. Not sure why, but she speaks to me in a way other versions of Mary don't. There's a Mass and a potluck at my parish, but nothing huge. My parish in Los Angeles really had a big to-do for dec. 12. When the traveling image of her came to that parish, the party lasted all night. :)

I've never had great devotion to her, but there is a definite fondness and affinity that I feel. Here in Santa Fe, I feel more drawn toward La Conquistadora-- it's just a statue, there is no apparition or anything attributed to her, other than the faith of the people here and a testament to their devotion.

But this year when I saw the devotion the people had to Guadalupe when the new statue arrived, I was blown away. It was an amazing feeling and I think I finally understood it.

The novena at my parish wraps on on Friday, with Mass and I think a potluck, but I'm not sure.
